McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center to waive fees for Clear the Shelters day
CRYSTAL LAKE – The McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center is participating in a national initiative to help cats and dogs find their forever homes.
The adoption fee for cats and dogs that are 6 months old or older will be waived as part of Clear the Shelters day, according to a news release from the McHenry County Department of Health.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 19 at the McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center, 100 N. Virginia St., Crystal Lake.
“We are proud to be part of this nationwide initiative,” Maryellen Howell, the center’s manager, said in a statement. “Adopted pets go to new owners spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated with age appropriate vaccines, including the rabies shot. We ask adopters to make a donation of their choice.”
Hundreds of shelters in 20 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico also take part in the one-day event, according to the release.
More than 54,000 pets went home with new families last year, the release stated.
The McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center’s goal is to clear the shelter this year by finding homes for all adoptable animals at the center.
